Mieritz Off to WJC

The Wheat Kings will have at least one player at an international tournament next month.

Mark Mieritz will be heading off later this week to represent Denmark at the Division One, Group B World Junior Championship in Slovenia, which runs from December 12-18.

"I'm always excited to represent my country," said Mieritz on Monday, "But, I'll miss Brandon here and the team."

The 19-year old Mieritz, who has one goal and six points in 27 games with the Wheat Kings this season, is slated to play in Brandon's two games this weekend before heading overseas ths Sunday.

This year marks the third time Mieritz has represented Denmark at the event and he's hoping to help his country to a victory, which would earn them a spot in the A Pool for the 2012 World Junior Championship in Calgary and Edmonton.

"This year, we have the best team ever, so this is the best opportunity to get up to the A Group," says Mieritz, who also played at the Under-18's in 2009, "The last two years, I've played three finals and we lost all three so it's been pretty tough the last two years so I hope we get the chance this year."

Denmark's competition at the Division One, Group B World Junior Championship including host Slovenia, Austria, Lithuania, Kazakhstan and Croatia.
