Glennie Notches Big Goal for Wheat Kings

Scott Glennie has been snake bitten when trying to find the back of the net for much of the year, but his third goal of the season was a big one for the Wheat Kings.

Glennie redirected a Brodie Melnychuk shot/pass 53 seconds into overtime to lift Brandon to a 3-2 victory over the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Friday night.

It was Glennie's first goal since October 23rd, and the 19-year old says it was a relief to finally get one.

"For sure it was, especially in the last 10 seconds when you have a breakaway to try and seal things up too," says Glennie, who has 13 assists over the last eight games, "It's frustrating but to get that goal, it felt really good. It was a good play by (Melnychuk) to me in the high slot and I got lucky that it went by their goalie."

Shayne Wiebe scored both goals in regulation for the Wheat Kings while Liam Liston finished with 29 saves in the Brandon net.

Mark Reners and Mitch Maxwell scored the goals for Lethbridge while Brandon Anderson stopped 32 shots for the Hurricanes including 18 in the second period.

It was the 14th time in 22 contests the Wheat Kings have been involved in a game decided by two goals or less, something Glennie says they're getting used to.

"I think that's how our team is going to have to play this year," says Glennie, "We lost a lot of our top guys last year, and I think we understand that we have to play really good defensively and a lot of low-scoring and one-goal games are going to happen. I think that's going to strengthen our team along the way, just for playoffs and stuff."

The Wheat Kings have allowed just 12 goals in the last five games, picking up four wins along the way, and have now won four consecutive home games as well.

Brandon's next action is Monday, when they visit the Regina Pats.

Chaff...Glennie's assist on Wiebe's third period goal was the 150th of his WHL career...Wiebe's now got points in five straight games, notching five goals and eight points in that span...Melnychuk has three goals and 11 points in the last 10 games...Liston is 4-1 with a 2.37 GAA and .926 SPCT in five starts this month.
