Rebels Double Wheat Kings

The Red Deer rebels scored three unanswered goals in the third period to defeat the Brandon Wheat Kings 4-2 Friday night.

Minnedosa product Chad Robinson began the Rebels' comeback from a 2-1 deficit by notching his first career Western Hockey League goal just over four minutes into the final frame to tie the game, while Lane Scheidl notching the game winner with just over five minutes left.

The loss was Brandon's third in a row and Brandon captain Shayne Wiebe says it's important for them not to get down on themselves.

"Especially with quite the young team we have this year, we have to make sure those guys aren't getting down because he have games that come up right after," says Wiebe, who had an assist in Friday's contest, "Like (Saturday), we have to focus on that. We can't be dwelling on the night before, and the same if we win...we can't be on a high for too long."

John Persson, on a first period power-play, and Brent Ferguson, into an empty-net, also scored for Red Deer.

Mark Stone and Brenden Walker scored second period goals for the Wheat Kings, who lost for the first time on home ice this season.

Liam Liston made 28 saves in the Wheat Kings' net while Darcy Kuemper made 29 saves in the Red Deer Goal.

Brandon is back in action Saturday night as they entertain the Tri-City Americans (7:30 p.m. Westman Communications Group Place).

Chaff...Wheaton King assisted on Stone's goal to run his point-scoring streak to four straight games...Eric Roy's assist on Walker's second period goal was his first career WHL point...Persson's first period power-play goal ended Brandon's season-opening streak of killing penalties at 26 straight...former Wheat King Alexander Urbom was pointless and had an even plus/minus in 8:57 of ice-time in his NHL debut with New Jersey on Friday night.
