Hayes Wins QMJHL Debut

Last night (Friday), I had tweeted that former Wheat Kings' netminder Andrew Hayes did not play for Cape Breton in their 7-2 victory over Halifax in QMJHL action Friday night.

It turns out, Andrew did make his Screaming Eagles' debut, turning aside 17 shots in the win.

The confusion, at least right now, lies with the QMJHL website (it couldn't possible be another flaw in the CHL-wide website that continues to show its inadequacies, could it).

The game summary on the QMJHL site indicated (and still does) that Alexander Veronneau played Friday's game against Halifax.

However, the story in the Cape Breton Post says Hayes played and won his QMJHL debut.

Congrats Andrew!!

BTW, Jacob De Serres second game with the Saint John Sea Dogs wasn't quite as good as his first.

De Serres allowed five goals on 24 shots as the Sea Dogs fell 5-1 in Acadie-Bathurst.

That is, if the QMJHL box score is to be believed.
