Wiebe, Wheat Kings Continue to Roll Through Pre-Season

Shayne Wiebe notched his fourth and fifth goals of the pre-season to help the Brandon Wheat Kings to a 5-4 victory over the Moose Jaw Warriors on Friday night.

Dakota Conroy, Wheaton King and Jesse Sinatynski also scored for Brandon as the Wheat Kings while Jason Swyripa, Brenden Walker and Jordan Fransoo each had a pair of assists.

Brandon overcame a slow start to the contest and were fortunately to emerge from the first period in a 1-1 tie despite being outshot 16-3 by the Warriors.

Liam Liston made his first appearance of the pre-season and lived up to his billing on this night, stopping 15 shots in the first period and 22 of 23 overall before giving way to fellow rookie Corbin Boes midway through the second period.

"I had a good week of practice, but there's always the opening season jitters, I guess," says Liston, "Once I got into it, we settled down a little bit. I saw lots of rubber early which helped a little bit too to get me into a groove."

Liston missed last weekend's pre-season games because of a hamstring injury that also sidelined him for a portion of Brandon's training camp.

"It was probably good to just go half a game today ad see how it felt," says Liston, "We'll probably re-evaluate (Saturday) but as far as things are concerned right now, it's okay."

Brandon closes the pre-season Saturday night when they visit the Warriors in Moose Jaw.

Again, I'm not broadcasting the game and will have updates throughout on this blog and through my Twitter (
