Wiebe to Wear 'C'

**Update with Quotes - 1:45 p.m.**

Brandon product Shayne Wiebe has been named the 54th captain of the Brandon Wheat Kings.

The 20-year old Wiebe was acquired by Brandon from Kamloops midway through last season and succeeds 2009-2010 co-captains Matt Calvert and Brayden Schenn in wearing the 'C' for the Wheat Kings.

"I think it's pretty special to be named captain, especially in your hometown," says Wiebe, "You can't think about it too much, you still have to go out and just play the game and lead by example."

Fourth-year defenceman Brodie Melnychuk and forwards Mark Stone and Scott Glennie were named alternate captains.

The group will lead a team that will have a lot of first-year players, putting more emphasis on the leaders on the club.

"You have to get all the older guys in your group to lead the younger guys and lead the younger guys and show them how it's done," says Wiebe, "They're going to do what we do and it's very important that we do the right things."

The Wheat Kings open the Western Hockey League's regular season tonight when they entertain the Regina Pats.
