Peel Looks for Full-Time Duty

Virden product Landon Peel is trying to land a full-time gig with the Western Hockey League's Regina Pats.

The 16-year old defenceman has appeared in three of four pre-season games Regina has played this month, and notched a pair of assists in the Pats' 7-3 loss in Brandon on Saturday.

"Things have been going pretty good," said the 5-foot-10, 150 pound Peel, "I've been playing well. The first game, I didn't play too well but after that, I got the feel of things and it's been good."

Peel was a third round pick of the Pats in the 2009 Bantam Draft, 50th overall and got a taste of the WHL last season when he suited up for two games with Regina.

He spent the majority of last year with the AAA Midget Southwest Cougars, notching six goals and 26 points in 39 games.

Peel feels he needs to have a well-rounded game in order to make the jump to the Pats this season.

"Moving the puck up quick, jump in the play a bit and playing solid defensively," says Peel, "Play tough...I'm, not a big guy so I have to play tough and jump in offensively."

Peel's next chance to make an impression will be Wednesday, when the Pats continue their pre-season by hosting the Saskatoon Blades.
