Memorial Cup Meets Guarantee

The Province of Manitoba and the City of Brandon are off the hook.

The two levels of government had made a guarantee to cover the minimum profit needed to host the 2010 Memorial Cup in Brandon, but it was announced Friday night that the event had met its profit guarantee of $800,000.

"We were pleasantly surprised, because we had a aweful lot of unforseen expenses. As it turned out, we came up about an inch and half above the $800,000," says host commitee chairman Jeff Cristall, "We were very happy to do that. We think that it was important for us, to declare the event a total success, for us to cross that financial hurdle."

Cristall adds the books are now being audited, and the event will officially be closed once that is done.

The profit from the 2010 Memorial Cup will be split evenly among the 22 teams in the Western Hockey League.

The Host Committee also made a pair of cheque presentations Friday night -- one for $30,000 to the Canadian Legion Dominion Poppy Fund from the money raised through the online auction of the special Wheat Kings' jerseys worn during the opening game of the Memorial Cup and the other for $15,000 to the Shilo Military Family Resource Centre.

Conratulations to all in a job well done. It was an amazing event. Everything was first class.

On another note what is with the WHL website?? It does not seem to be working at all. I would think that the WHL could do better than that with a website. Get Adam on it he will get it working properly.
