Hayes Off Wheat Kings Active Roster

**Updated at 4:00 p.m with quotes from Brandon GM/Coach Kelly McCrimmon**

The Andrew Hayes' era in Brandon is over.

The Wheat Kings designated the 20-year old goaltender for assignment today, reducing the number of netminders on their roster to four.

Hayes, a Sherwood Park, Alberta product, finishes his three-year Wheat Kings' career with a franchise best 2.79 goals against average and a 67-28-3-5 record.

"We need to get our numbers down. 20-year olds have been a challenge for us in other years and certainly no more than this year with six players that are 20, complicated by the fact that two of those are goaltenders," said Brandon GM/Coach Kelly McCrimmon after Tuesday's practice,"There's just not the demand in the league for 20-year old goaltenders that you need for guys to get opportunities and, at this point, we have to worry about getting our own numbers in check, both at the goaltending position and at the overage position. That was the move that came as a result of those issues."

It's expected the Wheat Kings will continue to try and deal Hayes within the Western Hockey League until the October 14 20-year old deadline.

"That's what's next is to try and work out a trade for Andrew," added McCrimmon, "I believe he'd do a very good job for a team so we're hoping that can be the case."

Hayes' departure leaves 20-year Jacob De Serres and rookies Liam Liston, Ty Rimmer and Corbin Boes will in Brandon's goaltending picture.
