Glennie Set for Season Debut

The Brandon Wheat Kings welcome Scott Glennie back into their lineup Wednesday night when they pay a visit to the Moose Jaw Warriors (8:00 p.m., CKLQ).

Glennie just returned from the camp of the NHL's Dallas Stars, where he got a chance to play in two pre-season games.

It was a stark contrast to last year for Glennie, who was relegated to spectator status at this first Stars' camp in 2009 because of an injury.

"It was really fun. It was a good experience and to get into those couple of games was really exciting for me," said Glennie after going through his first practice back with the Wheat Kings on Tuesday, "I was a bit nervous at first but to get in there, it was fun, the guys treated me really well, it was really good to play with pro hockey players."

Glennie was in between 20-year olds Shayne Wiebe and David Toews during Wheat Kings' practice Tuesday.

Not only will the Winnipeg product have to get over the disappointment of being sent down by his NHL team, but he will also have to adjust to the fact he won't be on a line with Brayden Schenn and Matt Calvert, his two linemates for most of his first three seasons in Brandon.

"Just getting started and getting some chemistry with my linemates. I'm going to have new linemates this year and that's going to be different," says Glennie, "Our team, so far, has had a good start and I'm just coming back in here and just trying to get my game back, work hard and make sure I'm doing the right things, and make sure I'm being a leader to the guys. I'm an older guy now, I have to make sure I'm doing that kind of stuff and it's going to be a different season that way."

Glennie was named an alternate captain of the Wheat Kings in absentia last Friday, but it's a role he's looking forward to.

"It's something I think I needed," says Glennie, "It's definitely a team that's going to have a lot of younger guys, and we're going to need our older guys to step up and show them the way. To be named an alternate captain is an honour, and it feels good."

The Wheat Kings will be trying to start a regular season with three consecutive victories for the first time since 2004-2005 on Wednesday night (8:00 p.m., CKLQ).

Chaff...F Mark Stone (1 G, 5 A), F Brenden Walker (2 G, 2 A) and F Paul Ciarelli (1 G, 1 A) all had points in each of the first two games for Brandon...20-year old D Mark Schneider (hip flexor) was still absent from practice Tuesday after missing the first two games of the season this past weekend...Brandon went 7-1-0-0 vs. Moose Jaw last season including a 3-1 mark at the Civic Centre...the Wheat Kings put single game tickets on sale Tuesday at the Keystone Centre Box Office (726-3535 or online at www.ticketmaster.ca).
