Wheat Kings at NHL Development Camps

A number of NHL teams hold their development camps in early July, including the Los Angeles Kings.

Among the participants there was Brandon Wheat Kings' captain Brayden Schenn.

"I'm going to have a good summer here, leading up to September," Schenn told lakings.com, "I saw what it was all about last year and I'm just looking forward to it. It's a lot different than the junior level, a lot of speed, guys are quickers, passes are better. That's one thing I think I need to work on is my quickness, get going there again and try to get better every day from here 'til September."

Meanwhile, Travis Hamonic is at the orange and blue mini-camp with the New York Islanders this week; Toni Rajala is participating in Edmonton's development camp beginning Tuesday and Scott Glennie is at Dallas' camp this week.

Former Wheat King Matt Calvert was in Columbus last week for the Blue Jackets' development camp. It wrapped up on Sunday.

Mark Stone was in Ottawa for a week at the Senators' development camp, which concluded on Monday.

Stone was a sixth round pick of the Sens' in June's NHL Entry Draft.

"Being drafted, you know they're giving you a chance. That's pretty much what it is," Stone told OttawaSenators.com, "I've just got to progress over the next couple of years and, hopefully, work my way into professional hockey."

Brandon product Michael Ferland was in Calgary recently for a get to know you session with the Flames.

The Wheat Kings' forward was selected by Calgary in the fifth round of June's NHL Entry Draft.

Ferland's visit included a tour of the saddledome along with the Flames' dressing room and training facilities.
