Road to the 2010 Memorial Cup

The Calgary Hitmen scored four times in the first period and went on to a 7-0 victory over the Tri-City Americans in the opening game of the Western Hockey League's Championship Series on Friday night.

Defenceman Matt MacKenzie and Misha Fisenko scored a pair of goals each for the Hitmen while Martin Jones stopped 26 shots for the shutout.

Hartney product Del Cowan added a pair of asists for the Hitmen, who are trying to win their first league title since 1999.

Game #2 goes Saturday night at the Saddledome.


The Moncton Wildcats took the opening game of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League's Championship Series on Friday.

Gabriel Bourque had a hat-trick as the Wildcats defeated the Saint John Sea Dogs 5-1 to take a 1-0 lead in the League Final.

Game #2 is Sunday in Saint John.

Former Wheat Kings' head coach Mike Kelly is the associate head coach and director of hockey operations with the Sea Dogs.


The Ontario Hockey League Final is on a break until Sunday.

The defending Memorial Cup Champion Windsor Spitfires have a 2-0 lead over the Barrie Colts with Game #3 and #4 on Sunday and Tuesday in Windsor.
