Rajala Understands Memorial Cup, Now!

Brandon Wheat Kings' import Toni Rajala is learning what a big deal the Memorial Cup is.

Rajala admits to not having a full understanding of what the event is about when he arrived in Canada last summer, but his teammates have been filling him in over the course of the season.

"I didn't know too much, when I came, but those guys have all told me that it's a huge tournament here," says Rajala, "I didn't know so much when I came the first time."

Rajala has one advantage over the majority of his teammates -- he's played in a lot of tournament formats including the 2009 World Under-18 Championship and the World Junior Championship the last two years.

"It's a short tournament and you have to win every game," says Rajala, "It's the season's last game, so you have to do your best and put everything into it that you can."

Rajala and the Wheat Kings open the Memorial Cup Tournament Friday night against the Windsor Spitfires.

Chaff...the WHL's Top Scorer could be hurting heading into the Memorial Cup. Calgary forward Brandon Kozun has a lower-body injury after going into the boards feet-first during the Hitmen's championship clinching game against Tri-City last Friday. He hasn't practiced with the Hitmen the last two days but vowed to be ready for the start of the tournament.
