2011 Memorial Cup to Mississauga

Next year's Memorial Cup will take place in Mississauga.

The Ontario Hockey League made the official announcement on Monday morning.

The bid from the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors will edge out bids from Windsor, Barrie and Kingston for the tournament.

The decision didn't come without controversy.

Mississauga doesn't draw particularly well, finishing 19th in the OHL this season in average attendance.

However, the big reason the bid was successful was fairly obvious.

It's reported owner Eugene Melnyk guaranteed the Ontario Hockey League a return of three million dollars.
