Saddledome Tour

I had a few minutes to do a little tour around the Saddledome concourse today. One of favourites building to walk around because of the historical pictures on display throughout the concourse area. Here are some of my favourites...

For just the second time in franchise history, the Hitmen logo adorns centre ice at the Saddledome. The only other time was during the NHL lockout in 2004-2005.

1989 Stanley Cup Champion Calgary Flames. Do you recognize that former Wheat King, who was a key part of the Flammes' success that season?

Former Wheat King Vaughn Karpan in action during the 1988 Olympics in Calgary. 'Karp' was a two-time Olympian ('84, '88) and is now a scout with the NHL's Montreal Canadiens.

A rare photo of the old Calgary Cowboys from the World Hockey Association. That's former Wheat King great Ron Chipperfield in the front row.

The 1988 Canadian Olympic team. That's Trent Yawney wearing the captain's C in the front row. Yawney in Brandon D Brodie Melnychuk's uncle.

One of my all-time favourites, the 1979-80 Calgary Wranglers of the WHL. The late Ed Chynoweth was the GM, that's current Calgary Hitmen GM Kelly Kisio in the front row as team captain and the two stickboys were current Kootenay GM Jeff Chynoweth and ex Swift Current GM/Coach and current NY Islanders assistant coach Dean Chynoweth. And the fellow with the moustache beside Dean Chynoweth, former Wheat Kings' coach Doug Sauter.
