Memorial Cup Notebook

The last Manitoba team to capture the Memorial Cup will be honoured at this year's event.

The 1959 Winnipeg Braves will be saluted prior to the a round-robin game between the OHL and QMJHL Champions on Tuesday, May 18.

The Braves beat the Peteborough Petes 4-1 in the Best-of-Seven Memorial Cup Final in 1959, with the final game of the series a 6-2 victory in a game that was held at the Wheat City Arena in Brandon.

The contest couldn't be played in Winnipeg because the Shrine Circus had taken over the Winnipeg Arena.

Among the players on the Braves' team were future NHLers Ted Green and Gary Bergman.

More tickets have been made available for the 2010 MasterCard Memorial Cup.

The host committee has put a limited number of assigned standing room packages on sale.

The packages have the same cost as a normal ticket package.

Contact the Wheat Kings' office at 726-3535 for more information.

Don't forget, Wednesday and Thursday is your chance to pick up your Memorial Cup ticket packages.

Pick-up is taking place from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday in the Pioneer Lounge at the Keystone Centre.
