2010 Bantam Draft Update

Alex Forsberg was the number one pick in Thursday's WHL Bantam Draft.

The centre from Waldheim, Saskatchewan went to the Prince George Cougars.

Forsberg is the younger brother of current Cougars' defenceman Jesse Forsberg.

No Manitobans were selected in the first round on Thursday but Winnipeg's Madison Bowey went to the Kelowna Rockets with the first pick of the second round, 23rd overall.

Brandon's first pick was in the third round, 65th overall. They selected 5-foot-10, 160 pound defenceman Colton Waltz from Vermillion, Alberta.

- The Wheat Kings then chose 5-11, 150 pound goaltender Tyler Fuhr of Sherwood Park, Alberta in fourth round, (87th overall). He's no relation to ex-Oilers great Grant Fuhr.

- In the fifth round (109th overall), Brandon opted for Neepawa product Nolan Speiss. Speiss is a 6-foot-1, 165 pound defenceman.

- Carberry product Daylon Creasy went to the Calgary Hitmen with the last pick of the fifth round (110th overall).

- Brandon chose LW Taylor Cooper of Sherwood Park, Alta with their 6th round pick (131st overall). Cooper is 5-foot-11, 165 pounds.

- Wheat Kings selected forward Kyler Hehn with their seventh round pick, 153rd overall. Hehn is a 5-foot-8, 137 pound forward.

- Brandon acquired Seattle's pick in 8th round. They then use 158th overall pick to take La Broquerie's Daniel Taillefer. He's a 5-foot-9, 150 pound centre. No word on what they gave up, but at this jucture of the draft, it's usually an exchange of picks for the following year.

- McCreary's Carter Zalluski goes to Edmonton in 8th round, 161st overall.

- Wheat Kings used their own pick in the 8th round (175th overall) to select C Jack Palmer. Palmer is a 5-foot-11, 157 pound centre from Victoria.

- Brandon acquires Seattle's pick in round 9. They use 180th overall pick to take C Quintin Lisoway. The Neepawa product is 5-foot-9 1/2, 153 lbs.

- With their own pick in the 9th round (197th overall), Brd takes RW Hunter Smith from Carlyle, SK. He is 5-foot-11, 165 lbs.

- With Seattle's pick in Round 10 (202nd overall), WK's took C Mitch Collett from Calgary. He's 5-foot-6, 125 pounds.

- WK's last three picks were C Matthew Hadley at #219, D Gavin Froese at #237 and D Maxim Powiada at #241.

- Brandon chose 13 players today (8 forwards, 4 defenceman, 1 goaltender). 5 from Alberta, 2 from Saskatchewan, 1 from B.C., and 5 from Manitoba.
