Broncos Become WKs First Round Opponent

The Brandon Wheat Kings will face the Swift Current Broncos in the first round of the Western Hockey League playoffs after the Broncos edged the Moose Jaw Warriors 5-4 in a shootout in their WHL regular season finale on Sunday night.

This one took a while to decide, going into ninth round of the shootout after the Broncos had tied the game 4-4 late in the third period.

The victory gives Swift Current 7th-place in the Eastern Conference, setting up the first round showdown with Brandon.

However, the Wheat Kings will only have to travel to Regina for their road games in the series as the Credit Union I-Plex in Swift Current is unavailable for the first round of the playoffs because the World Women's Curling Championship is taking place there.

You notice that a Game #7 venue would have to be determined because Westman Communications Group Place in Brandon is unavailable because of the Royal Manitoba Winter Fair.

It is quite likely the MTS Centre in Winnipeg or, perhaps, the Brandt Centre in Regina would be the Wheat Kings' substitute home site.
